The podcast "Temps d'Afrique: The Citizen Security Barometer Show" is a space for in-depth discussions on various aspects of human security in Africa. It is organized in the form of a webinar led by experts and researchers in various fields such as politics, economics, health, environment, and technology. The show aims to raise public awareness about the challenges and opportunities related to human security on the African continent.

Titled "Niger After the Coup d'État: Crossed Perspectives on Regional and International Implications," this second edition will take place on August 30, 2023, and will focus on the situation in Niger after the coup against President Mohamed BAZOUM. Currently, questions about the motivations behind this coup persist, and reactions from various international actors are intensifying.

Indeed, on August 10, 2023, during an exceptional meeting in Abuja, the Conference of Heads of State of ECOWAS made a significant decision by approving the military intervention project in Niger. This historic decision paves the way for the mobilization of a regional force, mainly composed of Ivorian and Senegalese troops. However, before deploying, this initiative requires the prior approval of the African Union (AU) and could also require the green light from the United Nations Security Council.

The debates surrounding this potential military intervention highlight diplomatic negotiations involving major Western (USA, France, Russia) and regional powers (ECOWAS, African Union). While France announced that it would consider any request for military support from ECOWAS, some countries in the sub-region have already expressed their concern to the CNSP (Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea Conakry). Others, although not forming an explicit alliance, outright oppose the military option (Chad, Algeria). Given the diplomatic, security, and social stakes, many questions await our speakers.
