Environmental issues have been a discreet but persistent factor in the development of African literature since the beginning of the colonial era. The ecological threats facing the continent as a result of global warming, extractivist predation and the consequences of armed conflict have strong literary repercussions. The aim of this congress, which will be held on the African continent for the first time since the founding of APELA (Association pour l'étude des littératures africaines), is to demonstrate the relevance of environmental concerns in African literature to major contemporary global challenges.
